Plaza's and Public Parks in Province of Capiz (Kasadyahan Sa Capiz)

Capiz Provincial Park
This landmark is located within the perimeter of Brgy. Tiza, Roxas City front of the Capiz National High School. It has lushful greeneries and houses several pocket gardens. The park has three monuments that represent the historical and cultural diversities of Roxas City. A turtle-shape outdoor theater nests at the Western part of the park. Another platform is situated at the Southern area, which can accommodate numerous public events. This park perfectly resembles a simple yet picturesque nook for local and foreign tourists.
Located at the heart of the city, this park has two divisions. The first division lies near the Panay River banks. It houses a famous landmark (Roxas City Bandstand), where it is the exact location were signing of MOA, chartering Municipality of Capiz into City of Roxas. At the right-end of the first division, stands the life-size chess plaza.


 The second division of Roxas City Plaza faces the right side of Roxas City Hall. It has several pine trees, but after the ravaging Super Typhoon Yolanda hit the Seafood Capital of the Philippines, several trees were uprooted and only few are currently existing. Travelers can visit Manuel A. Roxas Monument in this park. The monument faces with Jose Rizal Monument at the far-end of the Capitol. Few steps from Manuel A. Roxas monument is the only water-tank turned into Museum in the Philippines. The Panublion Museum serves as the "Story Teller" of Roxas City's History.

This landmark is situated at Brgy. Baybay, Roxas City. It faces the Sibuyan Sea and the scenic coastline of Northern Panay. At the left-end of the Park showcases the colorful dancing fountain. The park has cheap street food and a children's playground. At the right-end of the park is the kapis shells-inspired Seafood Court, where the City's marine products are served at a very chipper price.

Festival here in Province of Capiz (kasadyahan sa Capiz)


SINADYA SA HALARAN FESTIVAL

The Sinadya sa Halaran Festival is celebrated the first week of December in commemoration of the founding of the city followed by the Diwal Festival signifying the city's importance as the country's "Seafood Capital" along with the AswangFestival that symbolizes the heritage of myth and folklore in the province.
There used to be two separate festivals, the Halaran ("Offering") and the Sinadya("Celebration"), the former is celebrated by the Province of Capiz and the latter by the City of Roxas. The Sinadya was formerly held at the same time as the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, which was celebrated by the Immaculate Conception Metropolitan Cathedral. The Halaran was usually held by the last week of October each year (A prelude to All Souls Day and All Saints Day festivals). However, because of the costs of holding two separate festivals year, the two festivals were merged, with both the Province of Capiz and the City of Roxas contributing to the expenses.



DIWAL FESTIVAL

The Roxas City Seafood Festival is held to commemorate and promote the resurgence of the Angel Wing or diwal, which neared extinction until protected and cultivated in Roxas City.


CAPIZTAHAN FESTIVAL

The Capiztahan is celebrated every second week of April combined joint forces from City of Roxas, Province of Capiz and One Capiz. To commemorate the Independency of the province.



ASWANG FESTIVAL

Short-livedfestival dealing with supernatural characters and Capiz folklore. It was discontinued due to the protests from religious groups and away from the myth and practices of the ancestors.

Immaculate Conception Metropolitan Cathedral (Kasadyahan sa Capiz)


Immaculate Conception Metropolitan Cathedral is the heart of the city. It is centered in all establishments when it terms of businesses, banks, schools, malls, etc. Engaging all Religious sectors and marian devoties to visit the cathedral every sunday.



Roxas City was formerly called Capiz.  Capiz came from the word "Kapris", a kind of shell still common today.  As a town, it was founded in 1693, as a parish, in 1707.

In spite of its having been destroyed several times by the moros, Capiz became the capital of the province around the middle of 18th century due to its strategic location and prosperity.
The Capizeños have always been friendly and peace-loving.  Only once was the public order disturbed during the Spanish regime.

This happened during the time of Governor Duran who committed so many injustices.  As a result of these rampant abuses around 1,000 rose up against Duran. The timely intervention of the parish priest saved Duran his life; but only after he swore to correct the abuses.
When Capiz became a diocese in 1951, Msgr. Vicente Gonzales was the incumbent parish priest.

Seafood Capital of the Philippines ( Kasadyahan sa Capiz)





The abundance of marine life makes Roxas City the "Seafood Capital of the Philippines." It has received Cleanest and Greenest Component City in Western Visayas Award in the Gawad Pangulo sa Kapaligiran (GPK) Cleanliness and Environmental contest. The Department of Health (DOH) awarded the city with the Red Orchid Award for being "100 percent tobacco-free." It has also gained the Department of Interior and local Government (DILG) Seal of Good Housekeeping.


Roxas City as Seafood capital of the Philippines supplies export seafood products to various countries such as Taiwan, Japan and the United States.
Phillips SeafoodPhilippines Corporation is the sole seafood production company in Roxas City. Their seafood processing plant is located in Banica, Roxas City.
The Port of Libas or Libas Fishing Port, provides anchorage to fishing vessel; and serves as center for trade of marine products in the province.
The Port of Banica, serves as a trading route from Roxas City to different parts of Masbate Island. This wharf is said to be the site where Captain Diego de Artieda who was sent by Miguel Lopez de Legazpi from Cebu landed in 1569.

PANGAHAW FESTIVAL

Brief History
Connotes reciprocity that demonstrates mutual interdependence among our people, expresses itself in many forms and in many ways.











ILIG FESTIVAL

Municipality of Dumalag

Brief History
The palirong is unique and vital demalagnon farmers. It protects them from the sun and the rain. This is usually made of wooden poles, bamboo, rope; for its roof, it is made of “Patadyong” ( woven cloth) locally called “Katsa”, Palm or Banana leaves. As the time wenmt by, a tricycle driver came up with the idea  of installing a palirong onto his tricycle. This modern palirong is made of bamboo as its frame and its roof is made of plastic or wood.


SINAOT FESTIVAL

Municipality of President Roxas

Brief History
It is a street dancing contest among groups dancing to the tune of the latin beat garbed in colourful Caribbean costume. This annual festival is the center piece of the town’s municipal and religious fiesta.







LINGGA-ANAY FESTIVAL

Brief History
A vivid and Accurate interpretation of the Panayanons deep love for the birthplace and strong sense of responsibility towards fellow Panayanons. It is also inspired by the “Dakung Lingganay” or the Big Bell in which the town is well known not only in the Philippines but in whole Asia.






GUYUM- GUYUMAN FESTIVAL

Municipality of Pontevedra

Brief History
Take from the old town name: “ Caguyuman” meaning anthill. People from nearby municipalities would strive in the market place like swarms of ants for trading. This rich tradition is now a celebration of lie and thanksgiving for all “Caguyumanons”.





TABUAN FESTIVAL

Municipality of Pilar

Brief History
Conceptualized during pre-spanish time where the Aetas brought their harvest into town for barter of the abundant catch of the fishermen. The upland people met with the fishermen on the seashore. The Hiligaynon term for the meeting of the upland people and the fishermen is “tagbu”.





AGDAHANAY FESTIVAL

Municipality of Cuartero

Brief History
The Agdahanay Festival culminates on the 13th of June in honor to San Antonio de Paduaof the town patron saint. This was conceptualized to give due recognition to the Cuarteronhon’s hospitality. “Agdahanay” means inviting and accommodating others. One whole week of fun, revelry, cultural activities and frenzied street dancing are enjoyed by Cuarteronhons.

The concept is base on the rituals on how to express gratitude for a bountiful harvest or a good catch which features fishing and related activities like Seafood Cooking Contest.

A manifestation of culture inherent to Sigma as a cultural expression of symbiosis. It is the way showing this rich cultural tradition to the younger generation in order to let the Hil-o-anay spirit continue withpassion. Brief History
It mirrors the spirit of unity and cooperation of its people. One of the few is the street and dancing and pista ng bayan. These are the concrete example of group effort. From one fermented idea of planners, action men, and executions, they have translated their ideas, and concepts into mass action of well rehearsed and well executed play, dancers, and graceful rendition of songs and dances. A delight to the eyes of the heart.

BUYLOGANAY FESTIVAL

Brief History
Buyloganay” is a word typical of an Ivisan culture characterized by the gesture of unity and cooperation. It is celebrated every September 10 in honor of its patron saint, St. Nicholas of Tolentino.







PATABANG FESTIVAL

Brief History
In time, participating groups joined in the celebration resulting into a contest complete with costumes and musical instruments particularly drums. “SirinadyasaTapaz” became a yearly celebration centered on the “Bayanihan Spirit” Called “Patabang” (cooperation). As the celebration prospered, schools began to participate, adding colour and excitement to the event.

Brief History
In honor of the town’s Patron Saint, Sto. Tomas de Villanueva, “Pasalamat” is the annual theme of the towns fiesta celebration. The occasion is an auspicious opportunity to highlight the town’s rich culture and heritage, strengthen Daohanons Solidarity as a community ans as well as thanksgiving to God Almighty for the good health abs prosperity received through His blessings.




INULUSAN FESTIVAL

Brief History
First celebrated in 1975, the Mambusao annual Cultural-relegious festivity. This is a colorful pageant celebrated by way of recollecting the stories of Mambusao and depicting the historical and cultural growth of the town. Celebrated in honor of Saint Catherine of Alexandria, the term inilusan means the mutual and reciprocal giving and sharing of food and resources in generous measures and in the spirit of fraternal goodwill that permeates the daily life of Mambusaonons.

SINADYASA HALARAN (loosely translated as “joyful in offering/sharing”) FESTIVAL is a jovial celebration of thanksgiving and sharing of these blessings that took forms in programs and activities that depicts oneness of Capiznon with his Divine Source of blessings, with the blessings themselves, and with the whole humankind.
Capiz’ abundance in natural resources and cultural heritage makes Capiznon naturally generous and thankful. Human existence, for a Capiznon, is seen as oneness with nature, fellowmen, and the Divine Provider.

City of Roxas Popular Sites that you shouldn't Miss. (Kasadyahan sa Capiz)




One of the sites to see here in City of Roxas. The place is one of the favorite weekend spot for the local populace and those coming from nearby municipalities. Baybay beach is ideal for snorkeling, swimming, etc.  It has seven kilometer stretch of sugar-fine, glittery, black sand.





Nearby Mantgalinga Island which kilometer away from the shoreline of Baybay beach has been identified as an ideal diving spot for scuba divers and a perfect rotunda for sailboat. In the past year they called “ Good Luck Island”, the place believed to be a source of  luck for local fisher folk.






This impressive circular piece of architecture offers every visitors a comprehensive view of what Roxas City from the past throughout the ancestor’s of the province. A complete record those who have giving molded the Roxas city what is today. Constructed in the year 1910.




About an hour from the city proper is the Island of Olotayan. It is an island located besides barangay Cogon. And this island is also one of the barangay of Roxas City. This island is so blessed of it’s  coarse white sand beach and serene shores that fits everyone’s desire for a private beach. 





The birthplace of President Manuel Acuña Roxas, the First President of the republic of the Philippines. Roxas City’s most illustrious  son whose honor the city got its name, still stand at its original site at Rizal Street. A few minutes walk from the Roxas City Hall.





This Church is a silent witness to events that unfolded in the city over the past centuries. It’s imposing view complement the city plaza fronting the Panay River and the Capiz bridge. The Church build in the year 1877 through the Spaniard friars.





The old Spanish City Bridge has remained strong and firm since it was built in 1910. The bridge is a silent witness to the various changes that ushered in progress and the development of the city. For this, Roxas City has been dubbed as the “Venice of the Visayas”.

The Province of Capiz has excellent majestic caves tucked in its woodlands and its enchanting Water falls. Then there’s the seafood, which your about to taste it, then you would say " Kanami gid".  

The Province is proudly of its capiz shells that the locals call pi-os. Capiz shell products are popular all aver the world of its shining and glamour shells.

Province of Capiz is the birthplace of President Manuel A. Roxas, the first President of the Third Republic of the Philippines. Take a tour of his two-storey stone house (now a national shrine) located in now in Barangay Rizal near at City proper.
Capiz is also popular of the famous biggest bell in Southeast Asia — seven feet in diameter and 10.4 tons heavy. It’s made from 76 sacks of coins, and housed at the Sta. Monica Church in Municipality of Pan-ay.
The Our Lady of Immaculate Conception Cathedral, is one of the oldest churches in Panay Island. Dumalag Church was constructed out of yellow sandstone has a cross-shaped interior, and has a five-storey belfry housing five bells of different sizes.


One of  the religious site is Agtalin Shrine so call the Medal of Miraculous Blessed Virgin Mary, headed on top of a hill at Brgy. Dulangan, Pilar. Its 80-foot statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary is one of the tallest religious icons in the country.

If you’re looking for a relaxing walk by the shore, head to Baybay Beach. It’s a modest beach with gray sand. But delicious seafood dishes are sold along the shoreline.

If you’re a dive enthusiast, visit Mantalinga Island. It lies off the coast of Baybay Beach and is also a good spot for kayaking and sailing. Another local favorite is the Buntud Beach. It prides itself as being jellyfish-free, and fringed with powdery black sand and azure waters.

If you’re looking for an island hideaway, charter a boat from Banica Terminal in Roxas City to take you to the gorgeous Olutayan Island. Dive into its waters and discover a kaleidoscope of marine life! You can also visit the tiny island of Napti, known for its azure waters teeming with lobsters and fish. Explore the small cave on the island and bask in its serene environment with a stunning visit of Roxas City and Pan-ay.

Capiz is full of caves. Explore the massive chambers of Quipot Cave. You’ll also find wild ducks, birds and deer in the area.
Balisong Cave

Marvel at the beauty of Pilar Cave, believed to be an ancient burial site of the province’s original inhabitants. Earthen pots are said to have been discovered by locals. In the summer, beautiful orchids adorn the caverns.

Suhot Cave & Spring Resort


Suhot Cave is known for its crystal clear water gushing from a spring. Because of its length, it is believed to be connected to Badian Cave in the neighboring town of Dumarao. Suhotan Cavehas a cathedral-like dome and multi-layered chambers with drapers, stalactites, and a massive stalagmite. Igang Cave is another well-known limestone cave in Maayon, with chambers filled with dramatic stalactites and stalagmites.
